WHERE: All of the following locations are close to Norman and the Oklahoma City metro area, so it’s possible to make a day trip and be home in time for dinner!

Canton Lake is a short drive northwest of Oklahoma City and has nearly 15,000 acres of public hunting land. Alternatively, you could drive about 20 minutes or so south of Norman to the Lexington Wildlife Management Area, which contains about 9,500-acres of quail, deer, turkey, and other small game.
Arcadia Lake is right outside the city limits of Edmond but only offers controlled archery deer hunts.
Lake Thunderbird right here in Norman offers deer archery and shotgun waterfowl hunting at specific areas.

WHEN & HOW: Make sure you have the correct dates for the seasons by verifying information with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, or check out the current Oklahoma Hunting Guide. Deer is one of the most popular hunts in the state, but there are several other hunting seasons throughout the year to test your skill on other weapons. Here are the deer hunting dates for this season:

  • Archery: Oct. 1, 2019, through Jan. 15, 2020
  • Muzzleloading: Oct. 26 through Nov. 3, 2019
  • Gun: Nov. 23 through Dec. 8, 2019
  • Youth deer gun: Oct. 18 through 20, 2019
  • Deer holiday antlerless: Dec. 20 through 29, 2019

  • Antelope Archery: Oct. 1 through 14, 2019
  • Bear Archery: Oct. 1 through 20, 2019
  • Bear Muzzleloader: Oct. 26 through Nov. 3, 2019

  • Pheasant: Dec. 1, 2019, through Jan. 31, 2020
