Meet the 2022 Corvette Stingray Special Edition
Since its introduction in 2020, the C8 Corvette has been a truly legendary machine. With the performance of the mid-engined V8 and shockingly reasonable price tag, there is not a better sports car your money can buy. For 2022, Chevrolet has made some slight tweaks and introduced one of the first special edition models for this eighth generation of Corvette.
Let’s start with what makes the Chevy Corvette such a special car. This C8 Corvette Stingray has brought the introduction of the first mid-engined mounted V8 since the Corvette was launched in the 1950s. This architecture has been rumored for years but in 2020, General Motors finally made it happen.
This brought a legendary exotic car design and unmatched performance. What really shocked the world is that all this performance and style would be available for a starting price of around $60,000. There is no other vehicle near that price point that compares in terms of performance and features. The Corvette has a 6.2-liter V8 engine with almost 500 horsepower that can propel the Corvette to a maximum speed of almost 200 miles per hour. Thanks to the quick-shifting eight-speed automatic, you can hit 0-60 mph times in less than three seconds.
The first special edition for this generation of Corvette is modeled after the C8.R racecar. There will be two colors available, Accelerate Yellow and Hypersonic Gray, which will be modeled after the number three and number four racecars in the season. The name for this edition will be the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, which stands for the International Motor Sports Association Grand Touring Le Mans series. Additional features included in this package are the high-wing spoiler in Carbon Flash, yellow brake calipers, black trident design wheels, “Jake” logos on the center caps, black lug nuts, exterior mirrors in Carbon Flash, black side rockers, and splash guards.
On the interior, you’ll get a Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray cabin that mimics the exterior yellow and gray racing theme, with standard GT2 seats (Competition Sport seats are available), along with yellow seat belts and a C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque. Each car comes with a custom-fitted indoor car cover rendered to the appearance of the number three and number four Corvette C8.R race car. The IMSA GTLM Championship Edition package starts at $6,595.
