Electric Silverado: What We Know So Far

September 5th, 2021 by

It’s no secret that the automotive industry is moving towards more sustainable transportation solutions. The most common alternative transportation is by way of electricity. Several automakers are devoting their research and development departments and budgets to making high-quality, low-cost electric options so drivers can easily adopt this new way of driving.

Recently, Chevrolet announced their latest electric vehicle offering, the electric Silverado. The electric Silverado is going to be stepping into a fierce upcoming competition with the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian. These two trucks are the closest to production but we are also expecting an electric Ram and other EV truck options to come from other automakers.

We know very little about the electric Silverado other than it will be built from the ground up as an electric truck, feature awesome 24-inch wheels, and showcase four-wheel steer in order to aid in tight maneuverability situations.

Electric vehicles are extremely torquey and powerful so we expect the electric Silverado to have competitive towing numbers. If Chevrolet wants the electric Silverado to be widely adopted, it is going to need at least 300 miles of range. Paired with that range, it is going to need a well-thought-out charging curve. This means when you are on a trip, you can use a DC Fast Charger like Electrify America to quickly power up to get to your destination. This will help the EV Silverado be usable on longer trips and when towing heavy loads.

Chevrolet has done a great job in creating an efficient electric hatchback as shown with the Chevy Bolt so we expect them to have a few tricks up their sleeve when it comes to the legendary Silverado. Between new-age features and classic styling, we can’t wait to learn more about the upcoming all-electric Chevy Silverado! Contact us at Landers Chevrolet of Norman to stay in the loop!
