Chevrolet paces three races at Daytona with three different 6.2-liter V8-powered Chevys

February 25th, 2021 by

Over the past 120 years, Chevrolet has been deeply involved in motorsports, with Chevrolet vehicles both setting the pace and landing in the winner's circle at some of the world's most iconic racing events in history. That long heritage of Chevrolet pace cars got three more entries in February, when three Chevrolet vehicles powered by Chevy's now-legendary 6.2-liter V8 — a Corvette C8 coupe, Chevrolet Camaro, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 — paced three separate race series in one weekend at Daytona International Speedway, including the famed Daytona 500.

The three pace vehicles collectively produce 1,370 horsepower.

The most celebrated spot, pacing the Daytona 500 on February 14, was handled by Chevrolet's all-American supercar: the mid-engine 2021 Chevy Corvette C8. It was the sixth time a Corvette has paced the Daytona 500, and the 14th time a Chevrolet vehicle has led the way in the more than 60 years the race has been held. The fastest and highest-horsepower entry-level Corvette in the model's history, the C8 Stingray features a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 producing 495 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

An iconic 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST, powered by the available 420-horsepower EcoTech3 6.2-liter V8, got in on the action on February 12, providing the pacing for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series' NextEra Energy 250.

Finally, the equally-iconic 2021 Chevy Camaro SS 1LE, powered by the 455-horsepower 6.2-liter LT1 V8, set the pace at the Xfinity Series 300 on Feb. 13.

All three of the weekend's Chevy pace vehicles featured special graphics and a patriotic red, white and blue color scheme. Chevrolet's Corvette-exclusive "Rapid Blue" color was used as the base color on all three. Chevrolet used the occasion to announce that the color will make its debut as one exterior option on the 2022 Camaro.  A tiled pattern made up of Chevrolet Bowties, red accents, bold white lettering and pace car lighting completed the look.

With the cutting edge, flexible power of Chevrolet's 6.2-liter V8 leading the way at Daytona and on American highways, big time horsepower has never been more practical, accessible or fuel-efficient for every kind of vehicle and every kind of driver.
