Well, the ultimate proof of the dependability of the 2021 Chevy Tahoe will soon be once again be on display all over America, with Chevy's announcement of the all-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV). Thanks to General Motors' now-20-year-old Law Enforcement Product Council, which draws on the suggestions of real officers who drive the police-issue Tahoe in the course of their duties.the 2021 Chevy Tahoe PPV might be the best police-issue Tahoe yet, with more power, more cargo room, and several heavy-duty tricks up its sleeve to help it survive life on the beat and keep officers safe while fighting crime.

“Tahoe is the most aspirational vehicle in the law enforcement industry,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet. “By listening to the needs of officers from around the country, we have built the best Tahoe ever.”

To hit the happy medium between duty-ready performance and money-saving economy, the heart of the 2021 Tahoe PPV is a specially-prepared 5.3-liter V8 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet threw several innovations at the standard 5.3-liter V8 for police duty, including using the high-performance rocker covers off the 650-horsepower 2021 Camaro ZL1's LT4 V8 for improved crankcase ventilation and engine oiling, even under heavy cornering and acceleration. Both the engine oil and the transmission fluid in the 2021 Tahoe PPV are routed through heavy-duty cooling units to help keep everything at optimal temperatures, even during demanding conditions like extended idling or 100-plus-mph pursuits.

To handle high-speed cornering and top-speed spirits in the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, Chevrolet engineers worked with Bridgestone to develop Firehawk Pursuit Tires, pursuit-rated all-season radials capable of safely matching the 2021 Tahoe PPV's 140 mph standard speedometer.

Additional performance and severe-duty enhancements of the PPV include:

Specific suspension tuning with unique monotube dampers, coil springs and stabilizer bars for less body roll and more driver confidence when executing police-type maneuvers.

Lower ride height than a standard 2021 Tahoe, for easier loading/unloading, better aerodynamics and a low center of gravity.

A heavy-duty braking system, including 16-inch rotors and Brembo six-piston aluminum calipers.

Heavy-duty, clutch-type limited slip rear differential.

Speedometer certified at 140 mph.

Class-leading interior room, including 70.3 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second-row seat, and rear door openings 13 percent wider than those of the 2020 Tahoe, to ease loading of handcuffed suspects.

A special heavy-duty electrical system, with over 100 blunt-cut wiring harness circuits throughout the interior and exterior for easy adding of lights, sirens, terminals and other police equipment.

Upgraded dual battery system with emergency equipment isolation, including a 760-amp auxiliary battery will allow video systems, department radios, mobile data terminals, emergency lighting and more to operate without running the engine.

A new high-output alternator that delivers 47 percent more power than previous models

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe PPV will be hitting the streets beginning next year, and it's hopefully not coming soon to a rearview mirror near you!
