ANSWERS:

 D. In Oklahoma, it is illegal to park on the sidewalk, within an intersection, or within 20 feet of a crosswalk. It is also illegal to park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

 C. You should start to signal for at least 100 feet before you turn, slow down, or stop. In the city, 100 feet is roughly one-third of a block.

 C. On a wet road, at speeds of up to 35 mph, modern tires will usually channel water away to maintain contact with the road. However, in deep water at higher speeds, the channeling action of the tires becomes less effective and the tires start to ride on a layer of water like water skis. This is called “hydroplaning.” (Wide tires may start to hydroplane even at reduced speeds.) At 50 mph or above, hydroplaning may result in a total loss of braking and steering control. To prevent hydroplaning, slow down.

 D. Under Oklahoma law, the maximum speed limit on four-lane divided highways and two-lane superhighways is 70 mph unless otherwise posted. Of course, under hazardous driving conditions, you should slow down below this maximum limit.

 D. On an undivided roadway, if you approach a school bus with flashing red lights or showing a STOP sign, you must come to a complete stop, no matter which direction the bus is traveling in. You must remain stopped until (1) the bus starts moving; (2) the bus driver motions for you to proceed; or (3) the flashing red lights go off and the STOP sign is retracted.

 B. You must use your headlights from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise and whenever visibility is limited.

 A. For each of your hands to exert a strong turning force on the steering wheel, you should keep your left hand between 9:00 and 10:30 and your right hand between 2:00 and 4:00.

 A. According to the Oklahoma Driver’s Manual, you must not try to pass if you are within 100 feet of an obstructed view or if vehicles or pedestrians might cross your path. (Note: Even 100 feet is cutting it rather close. Remember that at 40 mph, your vehicle will travel 100 feet in just 1.7 seconds. That’s the only safety margin you will have to avoid an accident.)
