August 27th, 2022 by

Made to enhance every drive you take, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison was designed to smooth out those off-road drives without removing any of the fun. This special edition Silverado ZR2 has been hinted at since Chevy released a picture of its headlights earlier this year, but it wasn’t until just recently that any information or full body shots were revealed. We at Landers Chevrolet of Norman, Oklahoma want to introduce you to the off-roading capabilities of this unique new Silverado! Keep reading to find out more about it and what sets it apart from its Silverado ZR2 counterpart!

Our New Chevy Silverado Inventory

The 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison is a project between Chevy and the American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) group. AEV was established in 1997 and has been supplying performance parts and accessories to various Jeeps, GMCs, Chevrolets, (oh my!) and other brands ever since. Visit the website to learn more about AEV and the company’s off-road parts. This isn’t Chevy’s first partnership with AEV, having created the 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Special Edition just three years ago.

“Our most recent collaboration with AEV resulted in the much-acclaimed Colorado ZR2 Bison,” Scott Bell, Chevrolet vice president, said. “We’re thrilled to team up again to bring customers Chevrolet’s next chapter of off-road dominance, this time on Silverado. The 2023 Silverado ZR2 Bison unlocks the pinnacle of the nameplate’s off-road capability.”

Working to create the first-ever Silverado ZR2 Bison, Chevy needed the foundation: the first-ever Silverado ZR2. The Silverado ZR2 is also new to the automotive playing field, having been announced just last year in 2021. We took a closer look at the Silverado ZR2 here and a glance at the reveal with Chris Pratt, BRELAND, Chase Elliott, and Chad Hall here. While the Silverado ZR2 was created to be another great racing truck, just like the Colorado ZR2 before it, the Silverado ZR2 Bison is equipped with more “off-road confidence.” That means the Bison Edition will keep the Silverado ZR2’s standard 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower, 460 pound-feet of torque, and a 10-speed automatic transmission for its base powertrain. It’ll keep the Multimatic 40-millimeter DSSV spool-valve dampers, increased suspension, and front and rear e-lockers. It’ll keep the same ground clearance of 11.2 inches at its highest. The Bison has an increased front approach angle by about 32.5 degrees for better climbing and a wider departure angle of about 23.4 degrees for a better descent. Car and Driver mentions in its assessment that the full specs are still not revealed and we’ll know more when it gets closer to the production date in 2023. You can read Car and Driver’s closer look at the Silverado ZR2 Bison here.

The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison will come standard with AEV parts such as 3 mm steel bumpers, underbody protection, five steel skid plates, steel rocker panel protection, and black vertical front tow hooks. The available winch adds a little extra to the front bumper. The Silverado ZR2 Bison also comes standard with a Multi-Flex tailgate. The Special Edition Bison has a gnarly appearance with a body-color grille bar, a black grille, 18-inch AEV wheels and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, and a Chevy flowtie. AEV badging and Bison decals can be found both throughout the interior and exterior of the new pickup.
