2021 Chevy Silverado to feature more work-ready trailering tech than ever before
Between hazards on the road, weather, distracted drivers and more, one of the most dangerous things you can do with your truck is towing. The engineers at Chevrolet behind the Chevrolet Silverado know this, which is why they've been on an innovation spree in recent years, coming up with ways to make sure that the Chevy Silverado 1500 is the hands-down safest half-ton tow rig on the road.

In addition to towing-friendly features like an available integrated trailer brake, live dash-screen hitch guidance to help make hooking up simple, and a fully boxed frame of high-strength steel to resist twist and flex under load, the Silverado also includes a truckload of technology to make towing safer. For the all-new 2021 Chevy Silverado, Chevy just announced a long list of new trailering technology advancements that will make towing in your 2021 Silverado safer and easier than ever. These all-new technologies for 2021 include:
TRAILER LENGTH INDICATOR: Making a lane-change on the freeway while towing a long or heavy trailer can be a nightmare thanks to increased length of the trailer, unseen blind spots, and discourteous drivers who don't know that they shouldn't hang out exactly where you can't see them in the mirror. The 2021 Silverado's newly-available Trailer Length Indicator helps with that by superimposing a red overlay that's twice the length of your trailer on the center console screen while driving, alerting you to any hazards the moment the turn signal comes on.
JACK-KNIFE ALERT: If you're a towing veteran, one of the scariest phrases you know is probably "Jack Knife," the moment when a two-tight turn can actually bring your truck and trailer into contact, potentially damaging your truck, trailer and hitch. The 2021 Chevy Silverado has your back, though, with the new Jack-Knife Alert. The system automatically tracks the position of your trailer and delivers visual and audible alerts if you're in danger of a jack-knife situation.
CARGO BED VIEW ENHANCEMENT: Center-dash touchscreens with multiple angle views have been a real gift to those who want to keep an close eye on their load while towing or hauling, as one should. All new for this year, the 2021 Chevy Silverado will up that ability even further with Cargo Bed Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance. Need to get a closer look at a tie-down, ratchet strap or item in your bed on the go? Just zoom in on through the 2021 Silverado's center-dash touchscreen, thanks to smartphone-like capability. Same goes for when you're trying to hook up a gooseneck trailer: just zoom in on the hitch to help guide you to a perfect touchdown.
ENHANCED REAR TRAILER VIEW: Lots of trucks have hitch guidance now, with colorful lines displayed on the center-dash touchscreen to help guide your bumper to the trailer hitch for a perfect, no hassle, no damage hook up. New for this year, the 2021 Chevy Silverado ups the ante with brighter guidelines and a Trailer-Angle indicator that shows you in seconds how your Silverado is oriented in relation to your trailer for fast hitch ups, even in situations where you can't back squarely up to the trailer tongue.
ENHANCED SIDE TRAILER VIEW: Another tool that's going to come in handy in cases where you can't back squarely up to the trailer when hitching, the 2021 Chevy Silverado features an enhanced rear side view that provides a split-screen view of both the left and right sides of your truck and trailer, to help make even awkward hitch-ups a breeze and keep you from running into anything in tight spaces. Gotta keep your trailer and Silverado pristine!
